"Communities in Flux"

Slip cast stoneware miniature bottles

An installation for Nigerian restaurant, Delta Tavern Kitchen (DTK).  Long established in Peckham Rye, London, DTK struggles to find a role for itself in an area experiencing rapid demographic change.

This collection examines present day attitudes to 'others'.

The willow pattern is a familiar ceramic surface decoration that became popular in England at the end of the 18th century and was mass produced in Stoke on Trent. Inspired by the hand painted blue and white ceramics produced in China, many variations of the pattern existed. Here's my own modern urban version, using the same colour palette. My neighbourhood, Peckham, London, provides constant inspiration for my illustrations. I send them off to a company in Stoke on Trent who turns them into transfers which can then be applied to my glazed ceramic pieces before being fired for the third time.
